A story of two women. Madhavi (Meena Kumari) self-effacing spiritual and totally steeped in indigenous culture. Bhanu (Rajshree) sensuous independent possessive and passionate. They both love Kumar Rajesh (Dharmendra). Kumar reciprocates Madhavis� feelings but it is a feeling of more of respect and admiration than romantic love that he has for her. He gets married to Bhanu but Bhanu cannot bear to see Kumar�s affection for Madhavi and taunts and torments her to the point of attempting suicide. Madhavi is saved by Moti Babu (Raaj Kumar) a rake and a scoundrel who uses Madhavi as a pawn to blackmail Kumar and his mother. A taut emotional drama.
