A story of two women. Madhavi (Meena Kumari) self-effacing spiritual and totally steeped in indigenous culture. Bhanu (Rajshree) sensuous independent possessive and passionate. They both love Kumar Rajesh (Dharmendra). Kumar reciprocates Madhavis’ feelings but it is a feeling of more of respect and admiration than romantic love that he has for her. He gets married to Bhanu but Bhanu cannot bear to see Kumar’s affection for Madhavi and taunts and torments her to the point of attempting suicide. Madhavi is saved by Moti Babu (Raaj Kumar) a rake and a scoundrel who uses Madhavi as a pawn to blackmail Kumar and his mother. A taut emotional drama.
