Mohan lives a middle-class life with his ailing mother and works as a college professor. His mother wants him to get married and can`t wait as per his wish till the end of his probationary period at his work. Hence his friendJeevan Ram agrees to find a woman who will pretend to be his wife for a fee and introduces him to a woman named Rajni who is then introduced to his mother. His mother`s happiness knows no end she even gives her family jewels to Rajni.. until the day both she and Mohan get to know that Rajni is actually a prostitute by the name of Champabai - but by then it may be too late to save the family jewels their lost respect in the community and also a possible relapse of Mohan`s mother`s illness.
