Shanti is an ordinary clerk in an office and Raj an engineer in a huge construction company both are deeply in love. But when Raj receives a marriage proposal from his boss for his daughter which also means that he would become a partner in the company after the marriage he forgets his love. He does not accept Shanti even after knowing that she was to be the mother of his child. Shanti leaves town and gives birth to a boy who grows up to be Vijay(Amitabh Bachchan). She passes away after making Vijay promise to take revenge from Raj. Vijay enters his father`s life who is now a business magnate and lives in his happy world with his wife son Shekhar(Shashi Kapoor) and his daughter Kusum(Poonam Dhillon).
